Inside TYVY Series | Post 1: Why bags?
Rightfully so, whenever I tell someone I’m launching my own company after decades in corporate retail, the initial reaction is surprise. Then comes the follow-up question: “Why bags? Isn’t that market already saturated?”
Despite all the market research, my own experience has made it clear - there’s still space in this category for a fresh perspective and thoughtful innovation.
From a product perspective, this was the category that essentially chose me. After years of traveling for work, I could never find a work bag that also functioned as a great travel tote - one that truly met all my needs. Whether it was style, function, or organization, every bag felt like a tradeoff. I needed something that could keep up with the demands of work, life, and constant movement, and still feel like me.
I’ve always been drawn to contrasts - soft yet structured, minimalist yet playful, classic yet unexpected. TYVY bags are born from the intersection of all these contrast, experiences and influences that shaped my creative approach.
It started with my first retail job at Canal Jeans during school, where I first laid eyes on a classic aviator jacket (which btw is the inspiration behind my first collection - more on that later). I fell in love with the subtle details - ruching, pleats, and the thrill of discovery in a design that told a story.
From there came Saks Fifth Avenue and Armani, where I developed an eye for refinement and polish. Later, I learned from Uniqlo that minimalism, when done right, can be deeply intentional and incredibly functional.
Whether it's work, family, or travel, TYVY is for women who do it all. Practical but full of personality, TYVY bags are a boost of confidence that's thoughtfully designed to move with you through life.
Yes, a well-constructed work to travel bag is highly complex to manufacture and that’s why many are standardized. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be reimagined.
At TYVY, we’re giving the work to travel bag a stylish update, with timeless design, purposeful features, and details that spark joy and delight. Because even in a crowded market, there’s always room for something that speaks to people.
