Why Work Travel Bags Matter for Women Who Do It All

I coined the "work-to-travel" bag because I was and still am that woman. The woman that constantly lived in transition for years and know that I'm not alone.

One moment you're heading into a meeting with your laptop. The next you're running to catch a flight, grabbing coffee between calls, or heading to pick up your kids after work. Or like me when I'm in between these, I try (and I mean try) to squeeze in a work out somewhere, somehow! Somewhere in between you're juggling chargers, headphones, keys, and your phone while digging through your bag.

That constant movement between roles and places was the starting point for TYVY New York. For many women, the lines between work, travel, and daily life are increasingly blurred. Yet most bags are still designed for a single moment: the office, the gym, or the airport.

When I started developing TYVY, I kept asking a simple question: Why can’t one bag do all of it well?

The “Work-to-Travel” Gap

After nearly three decades working in retail and eCommerce, I had seen countless tote bags launched into the market and I used many of them as well. Many looked beautiful. Others were extremely functional. But very few managed to balance both.

Most bags force women to compromise.

Work totes can feel heavy and overly structured. Travel bags often look too casual or too techy for professionally chic settings. And everyday totes rarely have the organization needed for busy schedules. With this, I saw a design problem which is exactly how I approached the challenge. Instead of thinking about the bag as an accessory, I thought about it as a tool that supports how women move through their day.

From morning meetings to evening flights, from commuting to weekend trips, the bag needed to adapt.

Designing “Beautiful Function”

At TYVY, we talk a lot about beautiful function.

Function alone can easily turn into utilitarian design. And beauty without function often results in bags that look good but are frustrating to use. The goal with TYVY was to create something that feels polished and elevated while quietly solving the everyday friction points women experience.

The brand’s flagship bag, the Aviator Tote, was designed with that philosophy in mind.

Inside the bag, every detail is intentional:

  • A padded compartment to protect your laptop or iPad

  • Mesh pockets so cables and chargers stay visible and easy to find ( I had struggled with all my various cables and chargers all over my bag!)

  • A key leash so you’re not digging through your bag while holding coffee

  • A top zip pocket for quick access to essentials

  • A luggage sleeve that slides over your suitcase handle during travel

These features may sound small individually, but together they transform the experience of using the bag. Those real-life moments were exactly what we designed for. Because when your bag works seamlessly with you, it removes small but constant frustrations from your day.

Built to Move With You

Another priority for TYVY was creating a bag that could handle the pace of modern life without becoming heavy or cumbersome.

Many structured totes quickly become uncomfortable once they’re filled with laptops, chargers, notebooks, and everyday essentials.

The Aviator Tote was designed to be lightweight while still maintaining structure and durability. It’s built to handle daily commuting, travel days, and everything in between.

This balance between structure, organization, and lightweight construction is what allows the bag to transition easily between environments.

Work. Travel. Everyday life.

Not as separate categories, but as a continuous flow.

A Bag That Supports Real Life

At its core, TYVY was created for women who are navigating full, dynamic lives. Women who move between professional responsibilities, personal commitments, and travel without slowing down. The goal was never to create just another tote bag. It was to design something that acknowledges how women actually live today and makes that life a little easier. Because the right bag shouldn’t just carry your things. It should support the rhythm of your day.
